Originally written and arranged for the CBSO Christmas concerts in 2015, Rejoice! incorporates the Advent hymn, ‘O come, O come, Emmanuel’. The piece is designed as an opening number for an Advent service or Christmas concert, with scope for two or three separate choirs and audience to participate. ¬†After an initial brass fanfare, a child soloist begins the hymn, and successive verses can be taken by children’s choir, community choir, men’s voices in harmony, women’s voices and culminating in a final tutti unison verse (with descant), ¬†which the audience also can join in.

More recently, the setting has been performed in a modified form (using a string orchestra and a single trumpet as accompaniment) at a London Symphony Chorus concert at London’s Barbican.
