Star of the East

This is a new setting of Reginald Heber’s Epiphany poem, “Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning.” It was written for the Boys’ Choir of the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, and received its first performances in December 2012 in Oslo and Trondheim. It has since been performed in Birmingham, London and the USA.

It is reflective in character, underlining the beauty of the poetry:

‘Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion,
Odors of Edom and offerings divine?
Gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean,
Myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine?’
